There is a photography session we label “corporate headshots.” That is when we take photos destined for website use, company staff directories, and marketing materials. They are usually pretty standard—smiling heads, suits and ties, business attire and the like. Occasionally there’s a little elegance thrown in, but otherwise, we work hard to make the boring not so boring!

With fabulous fall color along the Mississippi River for a backdrop and the awe-inspiring beauty Susan displayed in her full Native American garb, this “corporate” session moved us into the realm of magical. Susan’s quick smile, easy-going manner, and charm made this session inspiring.

From the beaded handwork to fringed trim to hand-cut stone, the costume represents a culture and heritage instead of a corporation and business. Be sure to take a close look. This sweet Grandmother has elegance written all over her.

We Asked Susan about her dress. Here is her reply:

“My dress is Deerskin and my husband Brad had it made for our wedding. Since that day beads and shells have been added and have special meaning. My Eagle Wing Fan was made by a Navajo man in New Mexico and my purple and white choker was made by an Iroquois woman in Oshweken Ontario where my mother is from. The long Turtle necklace is bone and came to me in Arizona. Collectively this is my Regalia, filled with Love and my Story!”

Even though it took us almost as long to post this on our blog as it did for you to deliver the local Nauvoo Honey to us (and it is just plain amazing by the way!), I believe we captured something special here. Thanks for all you do around the world and within our community. You bring enlightenment and awareness to so many through the beauty of who you are and the specialness of what you represent.
